AVS Video Recorder is designed to help you transfer video files from external devices and save them on your computer. Namely, you can save video copies from DV, HD, and Web cameras, as well as digitize VHS tapes. The app has the ability to save the recordings in the original format, or encoded in lightweight file types like MPEG-2 or MJPEG.
The program comes with a neat and straightforward interface that makes the video backup procedure easy to carry out. Half of the interface is taken by the preview panel, which can be extended to full screen for a more convenient visualization. You don't need to have much technical knowledge to save the videos to your computer. Once the device from which you intend to record is plugged in, you just have to select the output video format and start capturing. As I already mentioned above, you can make video copies preserving the native format or, if you care about the size of the backup files, you can compress the original video into an MPEG-2 file type.
While the transferring process is in progress, the app gives you information about the captured video duration and size in real time. If you wish to save your videos within a given time length or size, you can appeal to the scheduling feature provided by the app. This will allow you to split long-lasting videos in multiple files. This task is performed following a specific file size or length limitation that you need to set in the first place. Other useful features refer to the program’s ability to shut down the computer or to send it to sleep mode when the capturing is completed. more
